Cincinnati—Macy’s Inc. will be analyzing opportunities according to international expansion with the appointment of Daniel Edelman to the new situation of president for international retail increase.

Edelman was previously president and chief operating officer of San Francisco-based Macy’s West. Robert Harrison, previously president and COO of Macy’s Northwest in Seattle, will succeed Edelman as president and COO of the Macy’s West discord. While accelerating same-store sales growth profitably remains our number individual objective, we must look ahead to the future and prepare for longer-term initiatives such as international expansion.”

Edelman was chosen for the new assignment “in the way that that our due diligence process is thorough and our international strategies are consistent with our brand strategies,” Lundgren added.

Edelman, 59, has served as president and COO of Macy’s West since February 2006. Prior to that, he had been chairman and CEO of Macy’s Northwest since March 1998 and president of the division since February 1997. Just before that, Edelman spent six years as vice chairman for finance and operations at Macy’s West.

Harrison, 45, became president and COO of Macy’s Northwest in February 2006 after the Macy’s acquisition of The May Department Stores Co. Previously, he had been chairman of Robinsons-May since October 2004, having served as the division’s senior vice president and chief financial officer since June 2002, as well as the senior vice president for finance of the Meier & Frank division before it was merged with Robinsons-May.

New York—The Natural Color Diamond Association (NCDIA) is inviting retailers and manufacturers to a special breakfast event to be held June 1 during the Las Vegas trade shows, where attendees can view unique colored-diamond jewelry displays and learn how to boost sales.

Consumer marketing expert Diane Warga-Arias determine host a panel that will include Jean Marc Lieberherr, general officer superintendent of Rio Tinto; Larry West, NCDIA president and chief executive officer of LJWest; and Alfredo Molina, CEO of Molina Fine Jewelers and Black Starr and Frost. The panelists will explain their passion for the color-diamond category.

In addition, Warga-Arias will share strategies for using natural-colored diamonds to compete with the Internet, increase consumer interest and create robust shopping environments.

Robert May, executive director of the NCDIA, promises attendees a room filled with innovative displays.

“Retailers will be able to touch product and actual trial the world of color like they never have before,” May said in a media release.

U.S. officials to discuss Kimberley Process and Clean Diamond Trade Act at JCK show


New York—Rough-diamond jewelers attending the JCK Las Vegas show next month will be in possession of the suitable to learn more all over legal compliance with the Kimberley Process and the Clean Diamond Trade Act.

Paso Robles, Calif.—The Jewelry Consumer Opinion Council (JCOC) is launching a new, Web-based software program that will test jewels designs and concepts with consumers before the pieces are made into samples, potentially saving designers and manufactures money, time and labor, according to MVI Marketing, parent company of the JCOC.

The platform, called the “Desktop Product Assessment Program” (DPAP), will debut at the JCK Las Vegas show.

Through the DPAP, designers and manufacturers will have the opportunity to pinpoint their target consumer market right at their own desktops and discern consumer preferences in the inside of minutes.
